Historic Joshua House Outfitted for Solar by Carrier Class Green Infrastructure

CarrierClass Green Infrastructure has announced the successful installation of a solar energy generation project at Haverstick-Borthwick's Joshua House, a historic building in Plymouth Meeting, Pa.

June 22, 2012 - PRLog -- Plymouth Meeting, PA – CarrierClass Green Infrastructure has announced that a solar energy generation installation at Joshua House has been fully tested and commissioned; enabling it to start providing power to its tenants.

The project will provide the commercial tenants at Joshua House with more than 34,294 kWh per year of clean electricity.  The carbon footprint for photovoltaic cells is cleaner and greener than coal power; measuring only about 5% of coal's carbon footprint.  Coal power is the type of electric currently most commonly distributed by Peco.

The benefits of this project are not only environmental, but financial as well.  Annual utility cost savings will be nearly $4,200 in the first year alone. The savings is projected to be significant over the 20 year projected life of the system.

The actual savings and potential income generated by this turn-key system will depend largely on the changing Solar Renewable Energy Certificate market in Pennsylvania. At current SREC rates, the project is projected to pay for itself in savings in 7.8 years, and will generate an income for the remainder of the life of the system.

While the financial and environmental benefits of this green energy project are obvious, another benefit of the project is more difficult to see by design.

In an effort to meet the historical preservation goals for this project, the array has been designed to be completely non visible to the vehicular traffic that passes by Joshua House on Stenton and Joshua Avenue.  This allows Joshua House to go green while the building’s historical integrity remains intact.

CarrierClass Green Infrastructure hopes this approach will become a model for other commercial applications across Pennsylvania and the United States.  In addition, the solar panels provide potential educational opportunities.
