June 21, 2012 - PRLog -- Bombardier, Northern Ireland’s biggest manufacturing company has backed the Belfast Telegraph’s campaign to create 100 apprenticeships within 100 days. Bombardier Aerospace is currently celebrating it’s biggest ever order after NetJets agreed to buy at least 100 Challenger aircraft for around £1.3 billion, Bombardier has also said that its own apprenticeship programme is the ‘biggest in Ireland’. Vice President and General Manager, Michael Ryan has said that Bombardier welcomes the Belfast Telegraph’s campaign to encourage apprenticeships. A source from Stream Advertising has said, “These new apprenticeships will help give the opportunity to learn for those interested. After all, new jobs are always a good thing.”

Bombardier is also in a £41 million deal with London Air Services (LAS) in Canada for five Learjet 75 aircraft. A leading charter service provider based in Richmond, British Columbia, LAS is the first Canadian operator to place a firm order for Bombardier’s new light jet. Bombardier invited schools onto its premises as part of the Government’s ‘See Inside Manufacturing’ (SIM) programme, which is aimed at raising awareness of the career opportunities presented by manufacturing. Michael Ryan has said that by providing the necessary skills today will help provide higher-value jobs in the future. “It is a fantastic idea that Bombardier is showing students what exactly happens at a manufacturing company. It will hopefully encourage the students in a manufacturing profession.”

The activities were adapted from Bombardier’s educational outreach across Northern Ireland, focusing on science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) subjects. During the week pupils were able to attend a SIM-themed careers event at W5 Interactive Discovery Centre, observe a technology and design trail at the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum and see a ‘Dart’ model aircraft workshop. At Bombardier’s own premises, the visitors were given a tour of Bombardier’s fuselage manufacturing and assembly facility. Stream Advertising has said, “It is great to hear that the SIM programme is providing the students with necessary information. We at Stream Advertising would like to wish whoever applies for the apprenticeships the best of luck and hope that they get the job.”
