With the stiff demand for reducing drug development costs and achieving higher patient recruitment rate increasing globally, India is on the verge to become a dominant clinical trial location. What is holding it back: is it the Inadequate Quality? or Infrastructure? or Unavailability of Trained Work Force? or may be a Change in Policy? which is required to unleash the true potentials.

India has a huge pool of treatment-naïve patients who are willing to participate in clinical studies. With large geographic coverage, fast recruitment of patients at major sites in all metropolitan cities can have a positive impact on global recruitment plans. With increasing emphasis on evidence based medicine, clinical trials are assuming a more significant stature within the country. Global clinical trial services revenues is expected to touch $32.73 billion in 2015, with India and China becoming the major destinations for outsourcing of drug development by leading pharmaceutical firms. Though India may be on its way to become a hub for clinical trials for new drugs, but the law governing such trials is still weak.

In order to weed out illegal drug trials, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has set up a clinical trials registry, and all trials being conducted are supposed to be registered before they begin.
