Medicare Set-Asides Will Be Topic at Workers’ Compensation Educational Conference

The relationship between workers’ compensation and Medicare will be discussed at the Workers Compensation Educational Conference in August.

June 20, 2012 - PRLog -- Three national workers’ compensation experts will lead a one-hour session on “Workers’ Compensation Medicare Set-Asides” during the August 19-23 Workers’ Compensation Educational Conference at the Orlando World Center Marriott.

Moderator will be Roy A. Franco, Chief Legal and Compliance Officer at Franco Signor, LLC in Kenmore, N.Y. Panel members include Gary Nesbit, Director of Risk and Insurance Management at Advance Auto Parts in Roanoke, Va.; and Fred Pachon, Senior Vice President, Risk Management and Insurance for The Select Family of Staffing Companies in Santa Barbara, Calif.

The relationship between workers’ compensation and Medicare has become increasingly intertwined and complex. All parties in a workers' compensation case have significant responsibilities under the Medicare Secondary Payer laws to protect Medicare's interests when resolving workers' compensation cases that include future medical expenses. These insurance experts will present an overview of the Medicare system and help audience members understand the compliance process as it relates to workers’ compensation.

The CEU-accredited session will be presented on Monday, August 20, from 3:15 to 4:15 pm.

ABOUT WCEC & WCI
Now in its 67th year, the Workers’ Compensation Educational Conference (WCEC) is the must-attend event for C-level executives, risk managers, claims adjusters, insurers, and medical and legal experts. Presented by the Workers’ Compensation Institute (WCI), the conference offers attendees an extraordinary opportunity to connect with their peers and learn from nationally recognized experts.

Ongoing registration for the 2012 gathering reflects the global perspective of the conference, with an expected 8,000 participants from over 35 states and a number of foreign countries. The conference itself has been expanded to four days to accommodate the several hundred speakers presenting discipline-specific programs, break-out sessions and CEU opportunities. Of particular interest are a National Trends’ program featuring three national medical directors; a Risk Managers’ break-out paneled by two insurance company presidents; and a two-day “Center for Excellence: The Study of Medical Cost Drivers in Workers’ Compensation,” sponsored by Liberty Mutual. Additionally, more than 300 exhibitors will present information on their products and services.

The 2012 Workers’ Compensation Educational Conference will be held August 19-23 at the Orlando World Center Marriott.

The WCI is a nonprofit, nonpartisan educational organization that serves as a comprehensive resource to all members of the workers’ compensation community. The WCI is an outgrowth of the long-established Florida Workers’ Compensation Institute. FWCI remains in existence under the WCI umbrella and continues its Florida focus, while the national organization provides a broader outreach across all states. The website is www.wci360.com.
