Why you should have your own Domain / Email Address

Today with the Internet growing larger day by day, the advent of IPv6 and the never ending list of new Domain Names and New Top Level Domains, it is more and more important to register you own Domain Name.

Here are some reasons why you need your own Domain/email address:

It is easier to find you:
Having your own domain will allow you to be located easier on search engines such as Google and Bing.  This is a bonus when you are pitching for work.
You could secure your name eg: stevendavis.com, but it may already be taken. You could go for a co.uk or .biz etc but they are not as prestigious as a .com. Steven@iwantsteven.com is far more catchy and easier to remember than .biz etc. If you own a iPhone or similar they all have a .com button, attach this to your domain and you are more likely to get a potential customer/employer looking at your website or emailing you.

Less unwanted guests:
One of the problems with the rise of email, is the rise of junk mail. How often do you get spam and junk into your inbox even with a junk email filter.  The great news is, with your own unique email address there should be lots less junk.

Professionalism:
Nothing looks more professional than a decent suit, the same is with a email address, if you are trying to do business with a company nothing looks worse than a generic email address, eg; Stevendavis1572@internetmail.co.uk on the other hand having a good snappy personal email address can work wonders eg; Steven@iwantSteven.com. With this it brings integrity and trust, after all you don’t want to be handing business cards out with a generic email address.

Just like a personalised Car Registration number, this is unique to you. It can not be used by anyone else, how many Simon’s are there in the world? Also it is yours forever, unlike the generic ones that can and do change.

You can have a website:
You may not need it just yet, but it is ready and waiting for you when you are ready.
That said as more and more of us are using the internet for business it is a good idea to have a easily remembered domain address.

Value:
Top level Domains (TLD’s) are running out, there are only so many .com domains and once they are gone that’s all. The value of personal domains is set to rise over the next 20 years, who’s to say you are not sitting on a small fortune?

The internet has grown beyond all comprehension in the last 15 years, who’s to say it won’t continue this growth? Now is the time to get your own personal email and domain.
