“Over the past decade we’ve made safety part of our company’s DNA — something that we live and breathe every day, in all of our jobs,” said Waste Management Vice President of Safety Services Jeff Martin. “That dedication has made us a top performer in our industry and helps us better serve our customers. The ‘100 Days of Summer Safety’ program is a great reminder that safe operations are the foundation for everything we do.”
This year’s program will challenge employees in Waste Management’s Groups, Market Areas and Districts to improve their performance through a rededication to safe behaviors, and by developing creative solutions to safety issues. During the program, Waste Management leadership will continue to model safe behavior and accept nothing less than a safe operation. Employees will continue to participate in all aspects of Waste Management safety programs, including weekly safety training.
“World-class safety is achieved when committed employees embrace safety as a core value and act consistently to influence behavior,” said Martin. “Together, we can maintain the level of safety that Waste Management wants for our company, our employees and our customers.”
Waste Management will recognize safe employees with quarterly drawings, and a grand prize drawing at the end of the program. Prizes include an iPad, gift cards, paid vacation time and other items. Waste Management will also use the “100 Days of Summer Safety” to introduce their 5-1 Pro program, aimed at bringing a high level of focus to safe and responsible vehicle operation. The full 5-1 Pro program will roll out in 2013.
“In the end, our most important goal is for all Waste Management employees to get home safely to their families each day,” Martin said. “‘100 Days of Summer Safety’ is a fun way to focus on that very serious goal while encouraging a high standard of safety performance year round.”
