BizReach, which runs a career portal focused on senior executive hires, initiated the event to bring attention to the growing recruitment market and help companies and candidates make better-informed decisions when engaging with headhunters in Japan. The event receives wide coverage in the domestic Japanese business press including extensive national television coverage, and is the only such independent event recognizing recruitment firms in the country.
BizReach CEO Soichiro “Swimmy” Minami expressed his gratitude to the roughly 200 recruiters in attendance, noting that in only three years BizReach has become the largest site in Japan for high-level candidates, with over 100,000 candidate users. He also shared international expansion plans and announced that BizReach’s Asia-focused service called RegionUp has gone live and is rapidly attracting candidates and recruiter users.
Minami’s speech was followed by a brief kampai speech by Wahl & Case managing director Michael J. Case, who focused on imbuing the audience with hope for the future of Japan and stressing the vital role human capital serves in a mature economy like Japan’s. In a later interview with Nippon Television’s Zero nightly news program, Case expressed similar sentiment when asked if a Japanese startup like BizReach can survive in the difficult and diverse Asia markets. “BizReach will absolutely be successful outside of Japan,” he said. “We’re already finding their new service helpful as we roll out our business across Asia. We look forward to growing together from Japan!”
