“We believe strongly in the power of social marketing and one of the industries that can benefit most from utilizing social media is the hospitality industry. They have the most to gain and we have the most to learn from them. Social media is not for every industry, but it is a huge opportunity for hotels and lodging,” said Frank Scotti, Principal, Creative Director of Whizbang Marketing Firm.
Whizbang previously released the first SLO County Social Media Report on Local Businesses as well as the first Central Coast Winery Marketing Report through, Recipe Marketing Firm, a division of Whizbang. Their latest research on hotels and lodging was gathered in March 2012 and consists of a white paper with graphs and visuals that help display the findings.
The data gathered represents all hospitality business including resorts, hotels, inns, hostels, motels, and bed and breakfast inns in San Luis Obispo County. Whizbang’s findings are a snapshot of social media usage among these properties, as the numbers are always changing. The report does however determine social media patterns in the hospitality industry. All data was gathered through searching Facebook and Twitter as there are no actual tools to measure social channel usage.
“One thing that interested me the most about this report was the hotel that had the highest number of tweets, ten times the amount of tweets as the next hotel, had the lowest number of followers. There is also a hotel that had the most followers yet very few tweets,” said Scotti.
