June 19, 2012 - PRLog -- LANCASTER, Pa. — The American Water Works Association (AWWA) honored Serena A. DiMagno with a 2012 Fuller Award at its annual conference and exposition, held earlier this month in Dallas, Texas. DiMagno is director of environmental engineering at RETTEW, an Engineering News-Record top 200 design firm providing engineering, transportation, environmental consulting, planning and surveying services.

“Being recognized by AWWA with a Fuller Award is proof of Serena’s commitment to her profession and the many contributions she has made throughout her career,” said Mark Lauriello, PE, president, RETTEW. “I congratulate Serena on receiving this deserved honor.”

The Fuller Award is presented annually by AWWA to selected chapter members for their distinguished service to the water supply field in commemoration of George Warren Fuller (1868 – 1934). Fuller was an engineer who contributed greatly to the science of water purification, the treatment of sewage and the standardization of water works practices in the United States during his lifetime.

DiMagno has nearly 40 years of experience in water and wastewater system investigation, design, operations and treatment, management, regulatory negotiation, permitting and compliance. She has held leadership positions in both the private and public sectors, in addition to having owned her own consulting firm, which she managed for 20 years. As director of environmental engineering services at RETTEW, DiMagno oversees the day-to-day operations of the environmental engineering group and provides coaching and mentoring to the service area staff. DiMagno also leads the department’s efforts in business development, client relationship management and marketing.

DiMagno has served in several leadership roles in AWWA at both the state and national levels. She has served as Pennsylvania’s AWWA South Central district trustee and member of its board of directors, and she is an active member of the Pennsylvania Water Utility Council. In addition to chairing the Legislative and Regulatory Affairs Committee for the Water Works Operator’s Association of Pennsylvania, DiMagno is also a member of the Pennsylvania Water Environment Association, the Central Pennsylvania Water Quality Association, the Eastern Pennsylvania Water Pollution Control Operators Association and the Pennsylvania Municipal Authorities Association.

AWWA awarded DiMagno a special recognition award in 1999 for her contributions to the betterment of the water supply industry through application of her energy, knowledge, practical experience and business sense. DiMagno is a graduate of Chatham College with degrees in biology and chemistry. She resides in Hershey, Dauphin County, Pa.
