Saribung La Pass Exploratory Trek – A Journey to the Far Edges of Nepal

PRLog (Press Release) - Jun. 19, 2012 - There are not many recently-opened and little-traveled regions remaining in the Himalayas, but the remote Damodar Himal in northwestern Nepal is certainly among them. On April 14 to May 8, 2013, One World Trekking is offering the brand new Saribung La Pass Trekking Expedition. During this challenging exploratory itinerary, One World will attempt to complete a unique and remote route on the off-the-beaten paths of the Upper Mustang and Damodar Himal located a stone’s throw from the border of China (Tibet). "The trails here are rugged, cutting high into cliffsides and passing through small Buddhist villages that have changed little over the centuries", says One World director And Crisconi.

In order to allow for as much acclimatization as possible before crossing the 18,000-foot Saribung La Pass, the group will first trek to the culturally-rich Buddhist region of Upper Mustang and then descend through the remote NarPhu Valley before ending in the town of Besisahar.

The crossing of the Saribung La Pass is not a technical endeavor but, taken as a whole, this trek offers the adventurous soul the opportinity to cross many high mountains passes often covered with snow and ice and will see the group spending many consecutive days trekking and camping in remote valleys situated between the Damodar Kunda and NarPhu Valley regions.

The diversity in scenery, interaction with locals, ability to immerse ourselves in pure Tibetan culture and opportunity to walk where few have before us, will surely make this a truly incredible Himalayan walking experience. Run as an exploratory trek, the itinerary will literally be written along the way!
