PRLog - Jun. 19, 2012 - SAN JOSE, Calif. -- At the Online Teaching Conference 2012 held at Evergreen Valley College on June 14 and 15, ODG/COT Co-Director Jacky Hood announced this online service with a suite of tools to match self-learners using open courseware with mentors.

In her presentation titled So Many Open Courses, So Little Time, Ms. Hood stated: "Many organizations including the Open Courseware Consortium, Nixty, Saylor Foundation, and Open University provide open-licensed lectures, assessments, media, and other course materials. While instructors are free to include these materials in their classes, the majority of people using this open courseware are self-learners. Only a small percentage among them will have the time, self-discipline, and expertise to take full advantage of this courseware on their own. Most will need some form of guidance. The ODG MentorCloud platform provides such guidance by bringing together and matching open courseware self-learners (mentees) with suitable mentors."

Thanks to a generous in-kind grant from MentorCloud, a Silicon-Valley California based technology company, ODG/COT is able to provide this matching service at no cost to mentors or mentees. MentorCloud CEO Dr. Ravi Gundlapalli commented, "Most people who join the ODG MentorCloud sign up as mentors in some disciplines and as mentees in others. We are all learners and instructors, and MentorCloud is pleased to collaborate with ODG/COT on this fantastic endeavor."

Everyone interested in participating should request an invitation to ODG MentorCloud by writing to ODG/COT Senior Manager Bob Sawyer: bob.sawyer at opendoorsgroup.org.
