June 19, 2012 - PRLog -- The June issue of SA Defense Business journal features Mike Kenneally, vice president of Satellite Strategy at NewSat . Prior to becoming a part of the senior management of NewSat, Kenneally served the Department of Defence, the Prime Minister's Department and IBM. He was also one of the key figures who placed spatial information system in the national census. He ran  his own business in SA for 10 years, and his work brought him to different places in Australia and other countries.

Kenneally talked about the competitiveness of the company's teleport resources.
From a satellite reseller and teleport operator, NewSat is set to become a full-blown satellite communications operator by 2014 once the Jabiru-1 satellite is launched.  NewSat teleport business is a government accredited military satellite communications partner. In addition to the Australian defense agency, NewSat also serves the US defence forces with military satellite solutions under 20 different contracts.

An Endorsed Supplier to Australian government, NewSat delivers critical communications services to defence personnel.  The teleport business has earned its international reputation, having made it to the 2012 World Teleport Association's Awards for Excellence, along with two independent teleport nominees.

Kenneally believes that South Australia is a strategic teleport location. Manned by radio frequency experts, the NewSat teleports connect remote antennas to  multiple stations to establish a real-time data or voice connection across 75% of the world's surface. The Adelaide teleport is expected to see more engineers in the succeeding years as demand for mobile backhaul, satellite communications, and wireless broadband increases.

South Australia is a good teleport destination, said Kenneally, citing the region's strategic position to receive transmissions from various satellites.

"We have presence in Adelaide because South Australia is perfectly positioned to receive signals from a large range of satellite."

He added that teleport location plays an important role in timely relay of satellite signals, that's why military contracts are mainly awarded based on the location of teleports and the coverage of satellite networks.

Kennealy looks forward to seeing twice as large engineering workforce in Adelaide in the coming years. With the Jabiru satellite fleet, NewSat expects to increase Internet, mobile backhaul and VSAT coverage from 75% to 100% of Earth's surface.

The estimated date of project completion is 2014. The Lockheed Martin-built satellite will be launched by Arianespace into geostationary orbit to serve Australasia, the Middle East and Africa.  As of June, NewSat has around $600 million worth of pre-launch sales contracts.
