Wilmington, NC based company turns a personal need into a business to create products to protect children from the harmful effects of the sun.
(Wilmington, North Carolina), June 18th, 2012 –
Sunsnapz LLC is pleased to announce that after months of product development and improvements, the first line of UPF50+ sun protective blankets are about to hit the shelves.
Co-founder and CEO of sunsnapz Julia Huben recalls the difficulty she faced in protecting her newborn daughter from the effects of sun in her hometown of Wilmington, NC.
“I just couldn't find anything that was versatile, practical, easy-to-use, and affordable. It has always been a concern of mine to make sure my child is protected from the sun. Skin cancer is a problem in my family and close friends of mine have been affected by this life threatening disease. I did a lot of research and it became my mission to make sure my daughter’s risks are as limited as possible. This is really where the inspiration for sunsnapz began,” says the 31 year old native German who came to the States almost seven years ago to be with her American husband.
Sunsnapz is a t-shirt weight, cuddly soft, machine washable, UPF 50+ sun protective blanket which comes in two sizes and many happy colors. The unique, patent-pending "snapz"
“We created two sizes to fit any stroller, infant car seat, pack and play and baby carrier with the ease of a “snapz”. Our large MAXI blankets also come with additional four grommets so it can be used as a sun sail” says CFO and co-founder Seth Jacobsen.
Every blanket provides excellent UPF 50+ UV protection. The new parents and company owners added: “We are proud to say that we have sourced only the highest-quality materials and that all of our products are made here in the US. It was very important to us to have an enduring product and which is produced locally to maximize the benefits this product has to offer.”
Sunsnapz plans to donate a certain percentage of all profit to the American Skin Cancer Society in efforts to win the battle against skin cancer. “We are excited that we have created an extremely useful and unique baby product that will become a must-have item for every parent. Skin cancer rates are increasing every year and those affected are getting increasingly younger. We see this as an important step to helping parents educate their kids while keeping them protected from the harmful effects of the sun”.
