PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Royal Palm Retirement Centre (http://www.royalpalmseniorliving.com)
, a senior living residential community in Port Charlotte, has seen an increase in the number of residents in their community dealing with Parkinson’s disease.
“The United States has more than 1.5 million residents with Parkinson’s disease and 50,000 new Americans are diagnosed with it each year,” explains Mark Ackerman, executive director of Royal Palm. “This is an obvious cause for concern in our community as we see a growing number of our residents learning to live with Parkinson’s. Our staff can readily identify and adapt to the needs of these individuals to ensure they receive the quality of care they deserve.”
According to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, the prevalence of Parkinson’s is on the rise, particularly with seniors. Of individuals diagnosed with Parkinson’s, only 4 percent are under the age of 50. The same research found that the incidence of Parkinson’s in Georgia is projected to increase by 31 percent by 2025 as baby boomers age.
s important to understand that Parkinson’s disease is manageable with quality care and frequent consultations with health professionals,”
says Ackerman. “When considering an assisted living facility for a loved one with Parkinson’s, it is crucial to find a location that has dealt with residents with Parkinson’s in the past and understands the need for constant monitoring and adaptable care.”
