Woodstock Transition Becomes US' 115th Official Transition Initiative

July 10, 2012 - PRLog -- Transition US is excited to announce that Woodstock Transition has become the 115th official Transition Initiative in the United States. Transition Initiatives start when a small collection of motivated individuals within a community come together with a shared concern: how can our community respond to the challenges and opportunities of peak oil, climate change and the economic crisis? This small team of people begins by forming an initiating group and then adopts the Transition Model with the intention of engaging a significant proportion of the people in their community to kick off a Transition Initiative.

Kevin Kraft, a member of Woodstock Transition's Initiating Group, shared that what excites them most about this milestone is "the coming together of our community and the culmination, commitment and cooperation of the initiating group.  We all have busy lives and knowing we are able to contribute to the international movement by organizing and initiating the transition conversation in our town – The “official town status” is a lovely recognition of the work we’ve accomplished so far and inspires us to keep organizing, listening and sharing with our community."

"We’ve hosted awareness raising panels on energy – weatherization;  water management; Permaculture practices with seed exchanges; Solar energy; waste – patterns and alternative; Film series for each of these topics and most recently we co-hosted a dinner with the Woodstock Interfaith Council a conversation of Food Sustainability and Town History.  A Permaculture meet has formed, a fruit and nut working group has formed, we are in collaborations with Woodstock Land Conservancy, Woodstock Farmers Market, Historical Society, Public Library, Chamber of Commerce and local Theater Companies and are expanding this circle.  We participate in a County wide Tool Exchange Program, produce a monthly Film series on all the topics mentioned above and have a reskilling series planned for May, June and July -  to include  sheet mulching, soil making  and gardening to attract bees and butterflies, tree planting on tributaries, and canning classes. We offer home viewing salons for Transition 2.0.  Our Woodstock Transition Festival - Re-Membering Our Community (unleashing) is in the planning and scheduled for September 22, 2012."

Transition US is a nonprofit organization that provides inspiration, encouragement, support, networking, and training for Transition Initiatives across the United States. They are working in close partnership with the Transition Network, a UK based organization that supports the international Transition Movement as a whole. The Transition Movement is a vibrant, grassroots movement that seeks to build community resilience in the face of such challenges as peak oil, climate change and the economic crisis. It represents one of the most promising ways of engaging people in strengthening their communities against the effects of these challenges, resulting in a life that is more abundant, fulfilling, equitable and socially connected.
