From the 14th to 18th June 2012, over 500 Vespa owners stayed at Queen Mary as part of the Vespa World Days event 2012 held at the 02 Arena. The event, organised by the Vespa Club of Great Britain (which celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2012) takes place annually in a European country. In 2008, the Vespa World committee decided to hold the event in the UK for the first time, providing a neat fit with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Queen Mary, with it’s unique position 2 miles from the Olympic Park provided the group with the ideal base for a large group booking with its 1200 single and twin ensuite bedrooms, 24 hour reception and on campus restaurant facilities. Alan Stevens, Vice President of the Vespa Club of Britain and member of the organising committee for World Days notes ‘Between 3000 and 4000 Vespa owners travelled from all over Europe, the USA, Canada and Argentina to attend the event.’ Sue Mussett, Business Development Manager for Events & Hospitality QM (the hospitality brand of Queen Mary) notes ‘Queen Mary is uniquely placed to meet the requirements for Vespa World Days geographically, and in terms of the volume of bedrooms and support facilities we can offer to large groups seeking excellent value for money, and quality accommodation in East London. Alongside residential facilities, Events & Hospitality QM offers over 100 meeting, training and networking facilities supported by an in house catering service at three central London locations (West Smithfield in the City of London, Whitechapel adjacent to the Royal London Hospital and at Mile End).
