June 16, 2012 - PRLog -- Atlas Machine and Supply, headquartered in Louisville’s Jefferson Riverport International, announces the national launch of its new Laser Tracking metrology services for use in large-scale, on-site machining jobs for industry. The laser technology is especially applicable to steel, aluminum and paper mills, power plants, and manufacturers performing forging, injection molding, die casting and stamping processes.

The Laser Tracker service, which represents a first-year investment by Atlas of about $250,000, is ideal for harsh environments where machining services require precision measurement and portability.

With the added service, Atlas joins a handful of other U.S. companies capable of successfully applying the laser measurement technology to complex on-site jobs. The introduction of Laser Tracking also fits seamlessly into industrial services already available through the company’s new Field Machining division, which was launched less than a year ago.

How the Atlas Laser Tracker works

Exact measurements are essential for performing on-site machining jobs. Utilizing a laser beam from a Laser Tracker device, Atlas’ skilled Field Machinists are able to perform accurate measurements within ".001 of an inch" in a 15-foot range and ".009 of an inch" within a 180-foot range. Such exact measurements are necessary to accurately align industrial machine components repaired on-site and often in extreme conditions. The technology is also applicable to site preparation prior to a machine installation, as well as machine alignment if already on location.

Customers can be confident in the results, since Atlas’ equipment is certified and traceable to metrology standards established by the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Work performed by Atlas’ Field Machining Team also carries the company’s assurance of quality and customer satisfaction.

"Atlas’ Field Machining Team specializes in problem solving and brings the perfect mix of machinist/engineer to jobs utilizing the Laser Tracker system," says Jeremy Rydberg, Vice President of Business Development, and responsible for overseeing the new service.

Coordinating the laser system’s on-site application is Lead Metrology Specialist Brad Huddleston, who has more than 25 years of metrology experience performing large scale, complex measurements on air-craft carriers, submarines and satellites.

The Atlas Field Machining Team is ready to respond to industrial jobs anywhere in the United States and most countries outside the U.S., requiring a high-level of expertise and quick response.
