Local assisted living executive director educates community

June 15, 2012 - PRLog -- MACON, GA.– Jean Govoni, executive director of Blair House Senior Living, an assisted living facility with a state-of-the-art memory care unit, has become a force to be reckoned with in Georgia senior care. Over the past three months, Govoni has been the featured speaker at 10 events in Macon and the surrounding areas.

“Approximately 15 percent of residents in Macon are over the age of 65, which is well above the national average of 13 percent, and another 13 percent of residents have a senior residing in their household,” says Govoni. “Seniors are one of the fastest growing segments of the population and there are a number of issues directly related to their care and well-being that need to be addressed in the community.”

With more than 20 years of experience in operations management, human resources and staff development in the senior living industry, Govoni has become an in-demand speaker for local hospitals, health organizations and regional medical groups because of her expertise on senior issues. She has been called to speak on Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s, Aid and Attendance, how to select an assisted living facility and a number of other healthcare and lifestyle issues that impact seniors and caregivers. Organizations she has spoken to recently include Aging Options, Macon Coalition of Healthcare Providers, The Medical Center of Central Georgia’s Cancer Care Group, Vista Care Hospice, Coliseum Medical Center and Central Georgia Breast Care Center.

“It’s easy for family members and other caregivers to become frustrated as the seniors in their lives age and the level of care they need progresses,” says Govoni. “I believe that with a better understanding of the kind of issues facing the seniors in our lives that caregivers, hospital administrators and social workers in Macon can be better prepared to deal with the emotional, financial and physical stress that seniors experience.”

Govoni will speak to the Central Georgia Breast Care Center, 777 Hemlock Street, Macon, GA 31201, on July 19, when she will discuss “Your Attitude Determines Your Altitude,” a presentation on the impact of positive thinking when faced with obstacles and illness. The event is free and open to the public.
