Furthermore, the Leapfrog Group’s survey of more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals revealed that Englewood Hospital received perfect scores in all eight areas of the Safe Practices category, which focuses on the protocols a hospital implements in order to prevent patient harm. The Medical Center outscored hospitals in a number of other measures involving care patients receive before, during and after treatments.
“Safety is paramount at Englewood Hospital and this recognition not only demonstrates our longstanding commitment to earning the trust of our patients, but our dedication to the high standard of performance set by the Leapfrog Group,” said Douglas Duchak, President and CEO of Englewood Hospital and Medical Center. “This achievement is a testament to the tireless efforts of our world-class physicians, nurses and staff and validates our legacy as a leader in quality care. We are honored to be recognized as the top performer in patient safety in the state and will continue to strive to exceed the expectations of the community we serve.”
The Leapfrog Group calculated the Hospital Safety Score under the guidance of its Blue Ribbon Expert Panel, a nine-member team of patient safety experts from around the country. Hospitals received an A, B, or C based on the careful review and analysis of publicly available safety data.
“It’s The Leapfrog Group’s goal to give patients the information they need and deserve before even entering a hospital,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We congratulate the hospitals that earned an ‘A’ and we look forward to the day when all hospitals in the U.S. will earn the highest scores for putting patient safety first.”
