MDDC Council Hosts 30th Annual Procurement Conference & Golf Event

Silver Spring, MD: The Maryland/DC chapter (MDDC) of the National Minority Supplier Development Council is proud to announce its 30th annual procurement conference & golf event on June 27th and 28th. This year’s event theme is titled, “Embrace the Suite Spot”, reinforcing the notion of  minority businesses building relationships with the council's corporate members.

With approximately 3500 corporate members, including most of the Fortune 500 companies, the National Minority Supplier Development Council, chartered in 1972, has been responsible for helping its members connect with sixteen thousand council-certified minority business enterprises (MBEs) that have resulted in procurement activities exceeding one hundred billion dollars.

“Out of the tragedy of Martin Luther King’s death, this organization was formed to help lobby for minority businesses that were qualified and capable of servicing the procurement needs of Corporate America…” states Kenneth Clark, MDDC Council President.

“Reaching the 100 billion dollar milestone is a significant achievement for the council. However, that number represents only 5 percent of our members’ total procurement dollars. We’re hoping corporate members see the value in increasing their procurement efforts with certified MBEs to 30 percent”, Kenneth suggests. With Kenneth’s vision clearly defined, it’s simply of matter of when, not if that 30 percent will be achieved in the not too distant future.

On Wednesday, June 27th, the Business and Golf Outing will feature an 18-hole golf tournament, beginner’s golf clinic, networking breakfast, awards luncheon and gift raffle at the breathtaking Renditions Golf Resort in Davidsonville, MD.

The planned golf tournament format will involve a shotgun start at 9:00am. The cost per individual is $225 or $800 for a foursome.

The Procurement Conference will be held on Thursday, the 28th at the Omni Shoreham Hotel located at 2500 Calvert Street in Washington D.C.

Key conference highlights include prominent speakers, 80+ exhibitors, four major networking events, matchmaking sessions, educational workshops and seminars concluding with a sunset reception. The MDDC council is anticipating over 350 certified MBEs to establish relationships with the participating corporate members resulting in business procurement opportunities.

Some of the participating corporate sponsors are Microsoft, AT&T, Exxon Mobil, Ahold USA, SAS, Marriott, Choice Hotels, BGE, PNC, PEPCO, Verizon, Coca Cola and M&T Bank.
