Klemchuk Kubasta Names Shannon Bates Executive Partner

June 13, 2012 - PRLog -- Klemchuk Kubasta LLP (KK LLP), a leading full-service intellectual property (IP) law firm, announces the promotion of Shannon Bates to executive partner in their North Texas law practice, effective in June. She will be responsible for day-to-day operations and will lead the firm’s HR, recruiting and hiring efforts. This position will be supported by Chelsea Green, the new COO of the firm.

Bates’ new role in the firm allows Klemchuk to serve as Managing Partner. According to Klemchuk, this move will allow him to focus more on business and brand development and strategic growth initiatives for the company, and less on day-to-day operations. “With a 400 percent growth in personnel over the last three years, my emphasis will be on putting more systems in place to help run the business more efficiently,” he added. He will also oversee the three teams that support the company’s business, including the Operations team, Trial team and Prosecution / Transactional team.

“Restructuring these positions will allow our firm to allocate the resources needed to properly and successfully handle our increasing growth,” said Klemchuk. “We are very excited to see how these corporate-level personnel changes will benefit our firm for the future.”
Bates’ practice focuses primarily on U.S. and foreign patent, trademark and copyright preparation and prosecution. She also handles trademark opposition and cancellation proceedings; domain name ICANN proceedings; and business transactions, including licensing and technology transfers.
 
Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Bates has technical expertise in the mechanical and electromechanical arts. She has extensive patent experience in such diverse fields as oilfield technologies, HVAC systems, textile consumer products, computer-related technologies and medical devices.

As a graduate of the University of Houston Law Center with a J.D., cum laude, Bates served as Senior Articles Editor for the Houston Journal of International Law. She also earned her Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering with High Honors from the Georgia Institute of Technology.  Active in several professional organizations, Bates currently serves on the Council of the Dallas Bar Association Intellectual Property Law Section, as a Barrister in the Honorable Barbara M.G. Lynn American Inn of Court, and as co-founder and leader of the DFW Women in IP Law Group.
