June 13, 2012 - PRLog -- Johnson & Johnson together with The Lighthouse Marina Resort and SBMA collaborated for an outreach program last June 8, 2012 at Sitio Kanawan located about eight kilometers from the town proper in Morong, Bataan.

The project guided by Mr. Carlos Andres from SBMA, involved residents of Kanawan, predominantly inhabited by Aetas who have built their homes on the grassy plateaus and mountain slopes. Access through their community requires crossing the hanging bridge about 30-40 meters in length spanning the Batalan River. This road and footbridge serve as the only link between Kanawan and the lowlands.

Not even the wet and rainy weather could stop the team from visiting the Kanawan Elementary School. The Johnson & Johnson Supply Chain Division rotated in each class, totaling 155 students who were taught proper bathing, grooming and wellness through visual aids and by also providing products for the children to use and apply what they have learned in their own homes. Mr. Rolando Lazo, Supply Chain Director for Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, and Singapore, stated, “Our visit here seeks to improve the lives of others by using our products.”

A Boodle Fight (jargon for military style of eating which also symbolizes brotherhood where food is served and spread on top of the banana leaves and eaten with bare hands) was arranged by The Lighthouse Team for all to join and celebrate high spirits.  After which, the adults proceeded to plant Hardwood and Lauan trees in the rich soil located at the back of the school grounds.

Children beamed with joy and their smiles brightened the gloomy weather surrounding the area as they received books, umbrellas, slippers, medicine and other personal items they would need for school from the group. The students showered the participants with laughter and expressed their appreciation by doing their traditional Aeta Dance and song numbers.

“Life is a gift, and it offers us the privilege, opportunity, and responsibility to give something back by becoming more.” – Anthony Robbins
