SBPRA Authors Receive Awards at BEA Ceremonies

June 12, 2012 - PRLog -- NEW YORK – Strategic Book and Publishing authors Howard Jordan, Jr., Kenneth Rogers, Jr. and Sherrill S. Cannon were awarded honors at the BookExpo America (BEA).  Authors, booksellers and industry representatives from around the world attended BookExpo June 5-7 at Javits Convention Center in New York City.

Howard Jordan Jr.’s 101 Reasons to Leave New York won a Silver Medal in the 2012 Independent Publisher Awards (“IPPYs”) in the Adult Non-Fiction ebook category. There were over five thousand entries in the 16th annual contest, and the author attended the gala dinner to receive his award. “It was just great to be among other passionate, driven writers. So many had great books, but their personal stories of what they went through to get their projects into the world were just as compelling. Great crowd. Great energy. Of course, getting a medal made it all that much better,” said the author.

Kenneth Rogers, Jr.’s Sequence was named the Winner in the Science Fiction/Fantasy category of the 2012 Next Generation Indie Book Awards. The Indies are the largest Not-for-Profit book awards program for independent authors and publishers. The author was among those honored at an awards reception at the Plaza Hotel on June 4. "Being around so much talent and support was amazing! It gave me a push to write better fiction, the knowledge to better market Sequence to the world, and the courage to know I had the will to do it. It was a truly great night at the Plaza that I never will forget."

Also receiving an Indie Award was Sherrill S. Cannon, whose The Magic Word was named Finalist in the Children’s Picture Book category; this is the fifth major award for The Magic Word.  With Cannon unable to attend the reception, SBRPA CEO Robert Fletcher accepted the honor in her stead.
