June 12, 2012 - PRLog -- ROSEVILLE, Minn. – June 12, 2012 – Courage Center, which specializes in rehabilitation services for people living with disabilities, announced the receipt of a grant from the Cummins Foundation that will enable them to update their assistive technology center with new products and staff training. With four Courage Center locations in the Twin Cities Metro are, this grant will give persons with disabilities across the region the opportunity to try out the latest assistive technology, which can increase their independence and quality of life.  For persons with disabilities, testing a device to determine if it is the right solution is an important part of the process because each user’s situation is unique.

“For Courage Center clients this grant means increased access to the latest assistive technology and highly trained professionals,” said Jeni Mundi, Lead Assistive Technology Specialist with Courage Center. “Simply put, assistive technology allows a person with a disability to be more independent. It’s a tool that helps you achieve your dreams.”

One of the organizations assisting Courage Center with assistive technology and training is AbleNet, which specializes in the manufacturing and global distribution of assistive technology and special education curriculum. For over 25 years AbleNet has helped facilities such as the Courage Center stay abreast of the latest technology by conducting product demonstrations and training for staff and patients. Products range from easy-tech single message communicators like the BIGmack to voice controlled home automation with the Pilot Pro.

“Facilities like Courage Center are so important to persons with disabilities and anytime AbleNet can assist we’re always there with some level of support,” said Mary Sagstetter, AbleNet Product Specialist. “With assistive technology centers being available not only across the United States, but around the world, it is critically important to us to make ourselves available with both products and knowledge so individuals using our technology will be successful.”
