June 11, 2012 - PRLog -- BEDFORD, MASSACHUSETTS – Barry Libman Inc.’s ICD-10 readiness course Anatomy & Physiology for Coders is now being used to train coders at one of the U.S. News & World Report’s top-ranking orthopedic hospitals, New England Baptist Hospital (NEBH).

Anatomy & Physiology for Coders is a 12-week online course that educates medical record coders preparing for transition to ICD-10-CM and -PCS. NEBH’s goal is to provide the course to all of its coders, including those who specialize in orthopedic and sports medicine.

“As a nationally-recognized hospital, New England Baptist must stay ahead of the curve in multiple clinical disciplines. Our coding also must be ‘top-notch’,” said Tracy C. Harris, NEBH’s Coding Manager. “Barry Libman Inc.’s thorough and instructive ICD-10 readiness course helps us stay on the cutting edge of orthopedic medicine coding by providing a top-level means for sharpening the skills of our coders including those who specialize in orthopedic services. We are excited about this partnership.”

Scott W. Anderson, NEBH’s Associate Vice President for Patient Financial Services and Health Information Management, said, “This partnership has important financial ramifications. Those who take Barry Libman Inc.’s Anatomy & Physiology for Coders course can expect to significantly increase their in-depth understanding of anatomy. This knowledge, in turn, translates into more accurate and complete coding. And more accurate and complete coding translates into more accurate billing of services.  It is a winning proposition.”

NEBH is a leader in applying new methods to diagnose and treat all forms of musculoskeletal disorders and disease. The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) recognized NEBH as one of the top 10 hospitals for knee and hip orthopedics in the nation. NEBH was also a provider of one of the nation’s first artificial hip replacements.

A teaching affiliate of Tufts University School of Medicine, NEBH conducts teaching programs in collaboration with the Harvard School of Public Health and the Harvard School of Medicine. It is the official hospital of the Boston Celtics, and has provided services to U.S. Olympic teams, elite athletic associations, and individual elite athletes.

Anatomy & Physiology for Coders comprehensively reviews the major body systems. It covers regularly prescribed drugs, common laboratory tests, and common diseases and disorders. The course is enhanced with lesson notes, multi-media videos, interactive educational games, full-color anatomical drawings, quizzes, and weekly assessments.

The textbook is Donald Rizzo’s Fundamentals of Anatomy & Physiology.

Anatomy & Physiology for Coders has received prior approval for 24 continuing education units (CEUs) from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and 6 continuing education units (CEUs) from the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).
