A truly unique love story, Our Family Outing chronicles the journey as a family faces the reality their husband and father is gay. The story is told in two eloquent narrative voices – Joe, a husband, pastor and father who faces the truth about his sexuality and Leigh Anne a wife, church musician and mother who finds her way to acceptance and forgiveness.
Today, they form a non-traditional and very loving family where they successfully share parenting of their adult children and Leigh Anne serves as Godmother to the son Joe shares with his partner, James. Leigh Anne and her husband, Hugh, share a new bond of friendship with Joe and James that offers hope to anyone who has traveled through the break-up of a marriage and the struggle to re-define relationships.
“While I never imagined the journey my life would take when I met Joe, I realize how blessed I am to have been offered the lessons of the experience,”
Throughout the book, the authors use honesty and humor as a source of revelation and growth leaving readers motivated to choose love and forgiveness in the face of even the most difficult challenges. Navigating their own struggles, Joe and Leigh Anne offer permission to accept responsibility;
“As we watched so many other families struggle through similar issues it became clear that sharing our story could offer a new way to face their challenges, release their prejudices, overcome discrimination, and find hope for their future,” said author, Joe Cobb.
Cobb and Taylor are voices of acceptance and inspiration. Their story will undoubtedly help many families to deal with similar crises and replace fear with love in the hearts of their readers.
