Follow on Google News | Neo-Primitive Artist Karl Karni-Bain (BAI) in Solo Exhibition at Aloft Harlem HotelWest Coast mixed media artist Karl Karni-Bain (BAI) will be featured in a solo exhibition at the Aloft Harlem Hotel June 21, 2012 – July 18, 2012. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, June 21, 2012 from 6:00 — 9:00 p.m.
The exhibition features recent painting by the neo-primitive inspired artist that includes work from his mask series and semi-abstract nudes. Of his work, the art writer David Gresalfi says, “The immediately identifiable style of rough, expressionist lines and heavily worked surfaces belie the subtle organization of Bai's bold canvases. Primitively fashioned shapes intentionally evoke raw movement but are found delicately quilted into intricate arrangements. African and European sensibilities collide and are playfully subverted into purely aesthetic realms that find universal questions about how we respond to beauty and suffering.” Carl Karni Bain (BAI) received his fine art training at the California College of Arts and Craft and has exhibited extensively in the San Francisco Bay area, North Carolina and New York. His work forms part of the permanent collection of the University of North Carolina, Charlotte and the Harrison Museum of African America Culture. The exhibition series at Aloft Harlem features an exhibition by a solo artist each month and is a collaboration between Atlanta-based Avisca Fine Art Gallery, Art off the Main 2012 Art Fair and Aloft Harlem hotel with major sponsorship provided by MobiXpay, the mobile loyalty rewards app developer. Dates: June 21-July 18, 2012 Venue: Aloft Harlem Hotel, 2296 Frederick Douglass Blvd, New York, New York 10027 Presented by: Avisca Fine Art Gallery and Art off the Main 2012 End
