Market Commentary: Week of June 11th, 2012

June 11, 2012 - PRLog -- The markets hit the levels we expected(released) last week as we look for more Bullish action early in the week, then possibly some serious profit-taking after the Spain and Greece issues come to a head.  We are looking for a brief top on the S&P 500 in the range of 1,339 - 1,348 (watch these levels).  The ECB and European banks will try and capitalize the Spain banks and attempt to keep Greece in the Euro.  If Greece decides to leave the Euro, this will have a brief and brutal affect on our markets.  That will be a terrific buying opportunity in the July/August time frame if it happens on new opportunities and to added to profitable stock positions.

As many of you know, we are very strong proponents of "Active Portfolio Management".  If you are in dividend (income) related stocks, you should be Writing Call Options against them to increase your yield.  When managed properly, you could double your returns depending on stock price volatility and timing of the Call Writing (ask us about this if you are not currently doing this to increase yield).

Looking forward, we expect Bullish action in the markets leading into the Presidential Elections (read our Article on Market Outlook: 2nd Half 2012 - Equities - located on our web site - Free).  Getting ready to rumble as the candidates go at it making a lot of promises and plans for business growth, jobs, adjustments to healthcare and the financial system.  Should be interesting, but will have a positive impact on the markets.

The bond market is taking a hit on the long-term while the short-term bonds are looking more attractive for fixed income.  If you are looking to park money and diversify your portfolio, the 3-5 year corporate bonds are garnering a lot of attention.  Be careful with the Municipal Bonds as several state and local governments are struggling to increase their tax revenue while their debt ratings are subject to deeper stress and potential "Junk" status and potential default.  We are formulating a solid list of Municipal and Corporate Bonds for our clients over the next week.

There are several Preferred stocks that are paying a very nice dividend with very little volatility in their price.  These should be considered as part of your diversified portfolio.  If you are a client and your "Risk Profile" warrants this asset class in your portfolio, we should discuss in the near-term.  Income stocks are very important right now because as volatility picks up in the market with domestic and geo-political issues, a consistent revenue stream is critical to your portfolio if you are in the "accumulation stage" to compound over the years.  Also, for those that are in the "distribution" stage of life the consistent income to maintain your current and future lifestyle becomes more important.
