Euro 2012 Ukraine New Novel The Way of Vengeance, Commemorates Darker Days in the History of Kharkiv

June 11, 2012 - PRLog -- Between the harvests of 1932-3, Ukraine, then under Soviet control, was in the grip of terror famine and purges which claimed millions of lives. Under the banner of Collectivization, the Soviet regime stripped the Ukrainian countryside of grain, leaving its inhabitants starving and unable to move around to find food due to an internal passport system.

The results were simply devastating. As rural families gave preference to their children with any remaining morsels of food, the parents perished first, suffering a slow and hideous death before the eyes of their children. An exodus of desperate, starving orphans followed, wandering the countryside in search of food, en route to the cities.
In Kharkiv City alone, around ten thousand orphans were hidden away by the Soviet authorities, in the vast hangars of the Kholodnaya Gora Buildings.

This Terror Famine in the Ukraine, known as ‘The Holodomor’ claimed an estimated six millions lives in a single year, and is the setting for William Spencer’s astonishing new novel THE WAY OF VENGEANCE, a story of passion, courage and survival against impossible odds.
