Africa’s economy is now growing faster than India, yet many of the children there have no books to read, nor any way to learn English. The Language Portal has a solution.

Every time anyone makes a purchase from the popular Muliltingualbooks.com website, Multilingual Books will give a bilingual book to an African child, either directly or through participating charities.

In order to help meet the demand for difficult to find language books, Multilingual Books is now publishing e-books for children in multiple languages. Sea Monsters, by Brian Sorenson, and Tabitha’s Garden, by Erin Hilleary, will both be soon available in over 100 languages.

Other major language product companies such as Rosetta Stone do not offer courses for Amharic, Luganda, Twi, Kituba, Yoruba, Somalia, or almost any other African language.  Multilingual Books offers a refreshing alternative.

Kenneth Tomkins, the owner of Multilingual Books, says: “It is hard to say why the major language companies have ignored African languages. All I know for sure is that Multilingual Books is committed to producing high quality children’s books, free content and language courses for African languages, and we are excited about the giveaway in particular-- since we found most people buying books in Swahili and Igbo were doing so with the intention of giving them away later. So why not help by giving them away on our customer's behalf.”
