Texas Secedes From U.N.-controlled Union In Near Future Graphic Novel "REPUBLIC"

Kickstarter campaign launched to raise funds for politically incorrect graphic novel of small town resistence to military invasion of new "Republic of Texas."

June 9, 2012 - PRLog -- Lucas Cole is a one-man comic machine, doing the illustrations, story, cover art, and format for his daring look at a near-future America gone wrong and the subsequent bloody civil war.  Seeking help from Kickstarter, Lucas' publisher--another self-starter Howard Clarke of newly founded Western Gate Books--has launched a project looking for funds and exposure--and is looking to you to help them out.

In the small impoverished town of Wisdom, Texas, ranchers, fast-gun experts, aided by a couple Spec Ops survivors, take a stand against an expeditionary force sent from the new "Union."   The invading force is hampered by an E.M.P. explosion that has sent North America--and possibly the world--back to the age of steam.  This levels the playing field--or battleground--a little more in Texas' favor, because the upstart state and new Republic seems oddly prepared for post-E.M.P. life.

Cole envisions a great Depression of 2018 and the following Texas secession from the U.N.-directed takeover of America.  Rejecting the loss of American nationalism and belief in excellence and the importance of statehood versus an evolving world government movement, Cole's heros face death in order to stave off a multi-national force of forty men.  That's seven Texans (with the very timely help of two Spec Ops men) versus forty combat vets.  Imagine The Magnificent Seven Versus Red Dawn.

"You've heard of 'Cowboys Versus Aliens,' " says the gruff Cole, himself a Texan.  "Well, this is Cowboys Versus Illegal Aliens.  Illegally invading the sovereign Republic of Texas."

Despite Cole's sarcastic twist on the theme, the story is far from being "racial," he points out.  Cole's main character is part Comanche--a man who has proven himself as a Texas Ranger and struggles with prejudices in the small town of Wisdom.  Certainly a unique character in Texas lore.  For a look at an epic type of trailer, visit http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/151993315/republic-th...
