RateTea Enables Searching Of Fair Trade Certified Teas and Companies Selling Fair Trade Teas

PRLog (Press Release) - Jun. 8, 2012 - RateTea, an interactive website where anyone can rate and review teas, has a database of thousands of teas for sale from tea brands from the largest, mainstream brands through the smallest, most esoteric tea companies.

Searching fair trade teas:

RateTea enables users to search for fair trade certified teas, and allows users to browse the site and filter search results for any types of tea by their fair trade status.  For example, users can browse green teas, and then filter that search to display only fair trade certified green teas.  The same feature can be used to filter teas originating from a particular company, or teas produced in a certain region, as RateTea's database is indexed by brand, style (type of tea), and region.

Browsing tea companies selling fair trade tea:

Another resource that RateTea has to offer is a listing of tea companies which offer fair trade teas in their catalogue.  This listing currently includes 46 brands, which includes both companies like Rishi Tea and Arbor Teas, with a focus on fair trade products, as well as companies that carry a few fair trade offerings among their broader catalog.

The listings include both US-based companies, selling teas certified by Fair Trade USA (Formerly TransFair USA), as well as companies in other regions of the world, that use various other certifying organizations, like FLO (Fairtrade International).

Drawing attention to fair trade, and social, environmental, and economic issues in tea production:

Besides giving fair trade certified teas special status on the site, RateTea does a number of other things to draw attention to the social, environmental, and economic issues involved in tea production.  Rather than encouraging buyers to look for a certifying logo and stop there, RateTea encourages people buying tea to think more deeply about the issues involved in tea production and commerce, and to make holistically-informed buying decisions which consider how and where a tea has been produced.  Each fair trade tea is linked to an article explaining the purposes and ideals behind the fair trade movement.  There is also a page on each tea company, which highlights both various social initiatives undertaken by the company, as well as any efforts the company has undertaken to promote sustainability.
