“At The Elizabeth Hospice we think differently about hospice. We believe in empowering our patients and their families with knowledge, resources, choices and options. We wanted to create a website where individuals could find the information, resources and support they need to make informed decisions,” said Christina Kalberg, business development manager, The Elizabeth Hospice.
Research shows that the comprehensive approach of hospice care (physical, social, psychological, spiritual) greatly improves the quality of life for both patients and families. But the National Hospice & Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) states that nearly one-third of hospice patients die within a week of admission.
“Every day we reach out to those we care for and help them have a better quality of life through the hospice services we provide. We wanted to do that on a broader spectrum, one that has the potential to help many more individuals. To us hospice is about living more fully and we believe everyone should understand the hospice choice,” said Kalberg. According to a 2009 Pew internet research study, 61 percent of adults look online for healthcare information.
The site is designed for patients and their families and friends. The site provides free information on topics that matter most to people facing a life limiting illness. Beyond helping individuals understand hospice, healthcare choices, and their healthcare options the site also supports patients and family caregivers throughout their hospice journey. Content includes information on: how to take care of your loved ones, how get the support you need, how to ensure others respect your healthcare decisions and much more. Site visitors can also connect to a supportive caregiver’s blog, www.tehcaregiving.org. and get free tools to help them plan ahead.
The Elizabeth Hospice teamed with The Anoroc Agency www.anorocagency.com to create the website.
