The Australian University’s Video ‘Making the world our campus.’was rewarded as the top video by NAFSA in its International Education Video Celebration

• NAFSA even honored La Trobe University for contributing in NAFSA’s commitment to further international education by way of making such a video.
• ‘Making the world our campus’ Video was even shown as the Winning Video at NAFSA’s Annual Business Meeting in Houston, USA
New Delhi, 8th June 2012 La Trobe University has won an international video competition ahead of entrants from around the globe.
More than 60 individuals and universities from all over the world submitted videos to the contest. A panel of judges reviewed the entries and selected six finalists for online voting, the other five all from the USA. La Trobe University’s video, ‘Making the world your campus’ was victorious.
The video was entered in a competition run by NAFSA: Association of International Educators and La Trobe was awarded for their commitment to furthering international education at a ceremony at the NAFSA annual meeting, where the video was viewed by approximately 8000 delegates from around the world.
The video, which features staff and students from La Trobe University’s Bendigo campus, charts a 2010 study trip to Sri Lanka, where students from the Urban, Rural and Environmental Planning course were conducting research to help improve the quality of life in communities impacted by the Boxing Day tsunami.
Speaking about this envying achievement, Professor John Dewar, Vice-Chancellor and President, La Trobe University, Australia said ”The win is a great endorsement of the University’s planning courses and its valuable links with universities in other countries.”
“This win is the result of a lot of hard work by La Trobe University staff headed by Trevor Budge in developing excellent programs and fostering great relationships with other universities across the globe. The University is very proud of this achievement and we congratulate everyone concerned in producing the video and entering it into such a prestigious competition”
Trevor Budge, Associate Professor of Community Planning and Development said “The program gives students a valuable, practical experience in working with people from other culture. This is an exchange program based on total immersion in each other’s culture and joint work projects such as the one featured in the video. Students work on actual projects and come up with some practical ideas around community planning and development.
Mr Budge added “What you see in the video is an example of the mutually rewarding relationship that has been fostered between the planning courses at La Trobe University and Sri Lanka’s University of Moratuwa”
