June 7, 2012 - PRLog -- A new initiative aimed at helping businesses save money and prepare for new rules governing waste disposal has been launched in Aberdeen.

ACE Recycling Group has teamed up with Aberdeen Forward to provide a new collection service for businesses throughout the city and beyond.

ACE, a social enterprise company based in Alloa, Clackmannanshire, has formed a unique partnership with the Aberdeen-based not-for-profit recycling charity to provide a wrap around service for commercial clients.

Aberdeen Forward - which already covers the city, Aberdeenshire and runs the Zero Waste volunteer programme in Moray - specialised in office furniture and equipment, stationary, textiles and providing courses on recycling.  Now, with ACE, the charity is offering an all-in-one collection service to a wider range of businesses seeking to dispose of paper, cardboard, plastics, textiles, metal, wood, glass and other dry materials.

Lynn Smith, Chief Executive of Aberdeen Forward, said: “We are partnering with ACE on a range of  commercial recycling activities in order to improve on what we can offer existing and new clients. We can now provide a full collection service for almost any types of office waste, from paper to plastic and desks to sofas.

“We take away the waste, store it, bail it and get it ready for ACE to collect and feed back into the manufacturing process.

“We already have lots of connections with business groups through our furniture recycling service. Now we can solve almost all our clients' waste disposal problems with a single solution.”

New legislation, which comes into force in 2013, will force businesses to sort all their disposable products for recycling in an attempt to create a zero waste society.

The Waste (Scotland) Regulations will require all businesses to separate paper and card, plastic, metal and glass for recycling. Businesses that produce more than 50kg of food waste per week will also need to separate that for collection.

Malcolm McArdle, Managing Director of ACE, said: “Proper waste management not only saves companies money but creates new jobs and helps grow Scotland’s recycling and reprocessing industry.

“An increasing number of firms throughout Aberdeen and the North East are already adopting ‘zero waste’ measures to give them a competitive edge. Just a few basic steps to improving waste management could save Scottish businesses an estimated £2 billion and help the environment.

“Along with Aberdeen Forward we want to help companies and organisations, of all shapes and sizes, to reduce waste, comply with new regulations and improve their bottom line.”
