An Australian take on the second amendment? It may not be what you think.

Kakadu Traders makes a mark in the Concealed Carry community

June 6, 2012 - PRLog -- Much has been written about Australia’s long history of resistance to personal gun ownership. All that aside, when Kakadu Traders Australia were approached by various members of the military and law enforcement community in the US to incorporate a concealed carry system into their clothing, they took it as a personal challenge.  “We have always prided ourselves on being able to adapt our fit and style to the needs of our customers” says Jim Whillas, President of Kakadu Traders Australia in the US. “However “ he says jokingly, “this was a whole new crocodile to wrestle with!”

Nonetheless, the call went out. “Being a family business, we don’t mind waking each other up on the other side of the world, and this seemed an appropriate reason to do so” Jim says. It wasn’t long before ideas were being cast across the globe to help design a fully engineered system that truly met the growing needs of the market. After two years of patient design and reviews, Kakadu now offers their concealed carry system in a full range of their traditional apparel, including vests, jackets and even pants.

On a recent visit to the US, Jim’s brother Lea, who is CEO of Kakadu, explained further “We were already being told by our customers how much they loved our clothes. It made sense to simply incorporate the new ideas into those items.” However Lea stresses that it was more than just sewing in some fancy pockets. “We had to basically reengineer the whole structure of the clothing. This is extremely important to ensure correct weight distribution and comfort for the wearer.”

Kakadu’s Vice President of Sales, Brett Parry says that the reception of the range by customers has been very pleasing, if not a little overwhelming. “The current growth in this market has identified a wider demographic that is willing to carry a firearm for self-defense. Many states have concealed carry laws in place to allow for this.” Brett went on to explain that there is a real need in the community to provide the ability to do this without advertising the fact they are carrying, “Our solution is based on people wanting to wear every day, comfortable clothes that moves away from the tactical look.”

Kakadu seem to make this last point the core of its decision to enter this market. Jim Whillas ends with this. “It was the very people that are charged with protecting the freedoms we have that urged us to go this way. Now people can go about exercising that freedom fitted out with clothes that make them look and feel good.
