Smithfield Foods, McGill Honored for Food Waste Recycling Partnership

The Virginia Recycling Association gives 2012 Outstanding Partnership Award for Excellence in Recycling to Smithfield Packing and McGill Environmental Systems.
 
June 6, 2012 - PRLog -- Smithfield Packing Company, a subsidiary of Smithfield Foods, and McGill Environmental Systems, a North Carolina-based compost manufacturing company, have received the 2012 Outstanding Partnership Award for Excellence in Recycling from the Virginia Recycling Association.

Since 2010,  Smithfield Packing's plants in Virginia have diverted about 7,000 tons of residuals and by-products from disposal to beneficial reuse as feedstocks in the manufacture of premium compost products.  In the past 12 years, the Smithfield family of companies in the Carolinas and Virginia has recycled almost 170,000 tons in partnership with McGill.

Accepting the award last month in Roanoke, Va., were Mary Beth Wood, Smithfield Packing North, and Sean Fallon, McGill intake account manager.
