Leather industry’s Ambur Open 3 kicks off amidst fanfare in Tamil Nadu

June 6, 2012 - PRLog -- June 6 ,2012: The leather cluster of Ambur in Tamil Nadu will today host the third edition of one of the county’s biggest exhibition on finished leather, footwear components, accessories and technology in the leather and associated products. TÜV SÜD South Asia as one the leading service provider of testing, inspection and certification services is proud to be associated with the event for the third consecutive year.
TÜV SÜD South Asia has a leather testing lab at Ambur that boasts of state-of-the-art equipment and technology that provides comprehensive testing capabilities ranging from physical testing, performance and quality testing, and regulatory testing in the leather and footwear sector. Additionally the lab also carries out social compliance testing for Europe, UK & US, to which more than 75% of leather manufactured in India is exported to. The unique Footwear Mark for ensuring quality and safety is another value addition that is only offered by TÜV SÜD South Asia.

Tamil Nadu is one of the leading states for India’s leather exports and is home to almost 50% of tanneries in the country.  Approximately 45% of leather and leather products exported from India are manufactured in Tamil Nadu. Until the lab was inaugurated in early 2010 leather samples from the cluster had to be sent to Chennai, Bangalore & Hong Kong for testing. With the certification services extended at their doorstep, Indian manufacturers have been able to rapidly improve their export capabilities and grow their businesses exponentially.

This is for the first time that shoe manufacturing machinery will be showcased at the event. Ambur Open 3 is aimed at providing a platform to manufacturers and exporters to showcase their capabilities and explore new sourcing ideas. Over the past 2 years the event has expanded its exhibitor base which has helped participants explore new business propositions. Leading tanners will display their wares at the event which will be attended by product manufacturers from across the country. Some of the finest leathers for shoes, handbags/accessories and leather garments for the Spring Summer 2013 season will also be on display.
