MacIntosh will be honored at the chamber’s 62nd Annual Community & Business Awards luncheon on June 22. The annual “Man of the Year” honor is awarded to a man who conducts business or performs community service in Oxnard and whose deeds and actions have contributed to the betterment of the Oxnard community.
MacIntosh has more than 14 years of experience in sustainability, waste management and environmental services. In January 2011, MacIntosh took over as general manager of Republic Services of Oxnard, the City of Oxnard’s partner and operator of the Del Norte Regional Recycling and Transfer Station. He has also been instrumental in the formation of Republic Services’ newly created Green Team, a volunteer group dedicated to promoting recycling in the community and at Oxnard community events.
MacIntosh’s broad vision for the future of the City of Oxnard’s waste stream is to assist the city to help them reach their sustainability goals and ultimately become a jurisdiction that sends zero waste to the landfill.
“I am very honored to be receiving this award,” MacIntosh said. “Republic Services is a forward-thinking company that provides me with the necessary tools to serve the City of Oxnard while strengthening the community at the same time. Stewardship of the environment is Republic’s business and something that I am very passionate about. It is my hope that by educating the public about the importance of recycling that we can protect and preserve the environment for future generations.”
In the short time he has been in Oxnard, MacIntosh has established himself as a local leader. Sitting on the boards of the Oxnard Chamber of Commerce, El Concilio and Boys & Girls Club, he has a passion for helping non-profit agencies fulfill their mission. Through his leadership, non-profit agencies have received financial support as well as capacity building assistance. Under his tutelage, he developed a start-up organization, Community Among Friends, to assist Oxnard’s local non-profit agencies. While this began as a venue for agencies to share their knowledge and support, it has bloomed into a separate non-profit agency itself to help the community.
MacIntosh graduated with a bachelor of arts in linguistics from the University of California, San Diego. He then went on to receive his master of public affairs with a concentration in environmental policy and natural resource management from Indiana University, Bloomington.
MacIntosh and his wife, an emergency nurse, have a 7-year-old son. In his spare time, he enjoys golf, boating, backpacking and travel.
