CPA Firm Hiring Heating Up - Summer Looks To Be Extremely Active

With private industry hiring slowing down due to the summer months, public accountants are finding an extremely active market within CPA firms.

June 5, 2012 - PRLog -- Its true.  Hiring does slow down during the summer months. But not in public accounting.  Private companies, due to vacations, set budgets, etc., tend to slow (or even stop) hiring in the summer. Public accounting firms, on the other hand, are only starting to ramp up their hiring for the fall.

"The Managing Partners and Partners-in-Charge are absolutely interested in adding talent," according to Adam Karpiak, President of Karpiak Consulting.  His firm is a niche recruiting and consulting firm specializing in public accounting, servicing the New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania markets. "I remember from my years of recruiting accountants in private industry...once the summer hits everything practically stops. But since establishing my firm and working solely with CPA firms over the last several years, you find that the summer is an opportune time to make a move. You are between busy seasons and its easier to get out of the office for a meeting or a lunch. Firms are always looking to improve their practices and the easiest way to do that is through talent."
"Firms are always looking for organic growth," says Karpiak, "and a fantastic way to do that is to add quality people.  Whether its to start a practice line, or just bolster an existing service group, firms want to offer clients and potential clients as much talent as possible."

Summer 2011 was an active season for Karpiak Consulting, placing seniors, managers, and partners. But Karpiak anticipates an even more active 2012 summer.  Already his firm has more interviews and hires than at this point last year, and it shows no sign of slowing down.  "Meeting with these firms, they make one thing extremely clear:  Regardless of opening or active need  they want to see talent.  When I meet with someone who is good, firms want to see the resume."  Karpiak feels this is the best reason for a CPA to work with a recruiter.  "Recruiters have the established relationships with the hiring managers in the firms, and they knew what they like and want...regardless of job ad or posting. "

Other reasons a CPA might want to consider using a recruiter? "Confidentiality.  Public accounting is a small world, and if a CPA is considering a change, they don't want to alarm their current firm.  A recruiter allows for the CPA to see what the market is like, without fear of discovery."  "Plus," Karpiak continues "our opportunities tend to be exclusive due to our long term relationships with firms.  Firms don't want to work with 10 recruiters.  They want to work with a firm that understands their firm, and that understands public accounting.  Tax, audit, litigation support, wealth management, family office...my firm has at least 50 openings with firms right now.  If that doesn't sound active, I don't know what is!"
