June 4, 2012 - PRLog -- Mom, dad, let's go to a museum!"

– What no parent expects to hear their children say.

But a few index cards, some cryptic questions, and the promise of a prize for the winner transformed the traditional way our family did walking tours and museums into genuine Treasure Walks.

Using location-based technology, the Treasure Walks app brings what began as a simple D-I-Y concept to the iPhone. You can turn a day of trying to keep your kids placated at the Uffizi Gallery into a family-sized adventure.

What is a Treasure Walks App and how does it work?

Each Treasure Walks App comes with three separate self-guided walking tours. We put boots on the ground to develop each tour, which takes you to popular tourist sites as well as unique, off the beaten track places. Each tour takes between 1.5 and 2 hours.

Why "Treasure Walks"?

Each tour is also a treasure hunt. The app uses your iPhone's location services to track your position and send you challenges at specific GPS locations. Answer challenges by text or by picture and earn points for getting the right answer in the right location. Each tour is timed, and the user with the most points and the fastest time is the winner. (If you have multiple iPhones, you could even split your family into teams and compete against each other!)

When you're finished, share your tour on Facebook, or upload it tour to our Leaderboard to see how you rank versus other Treasure Walkers.

Need another reason to choose Treasure Walks? It's the best deal in town.

Walking tours are expensive. $15 per person for a tour in London, $17 in New York and as much as $35 in San Francisco. A family of four might spend $60 in London. For a limited time the entire family can take all of our tours for free!

Today we launch the first three Treasure Walks Apps for iPhone:

Treasure Walks New York: Central Park; 5th Ave to Time Sq; and Crossing the Brooklyn Bridge
Treasure Walks San Francisco: Haight Ashbury; Chinatown; and Hitchcock's Vertigo Tour
Treasure Walks London: Royal Palaces and Parks; Tudor London; and Westminster and the river.
