Abandoned and Impoverished Children Rescued by Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur

With limited resources for their own upkeep, Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur across the globe feed, clothe, protect and educate destitute children. Encouraging these children to embrace and celebrate their lives is integral to the Sisters' mission.

June 4, 2012 - PRLog -- Ipswich, MA – Deep in the Democratic Republic of Congo, a small boy named Décision left his impoverished village behind and set out barefoot into the unknown. Without parents or siblings or any other extended family, Décision was in search of where he could belong. When the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur rescued him from his wanderings, he was in rags and starving.
“Where can I buy new parents?” he asked the Sisters. “I could go look at the market, but I don’t have any money.”
The Sisters were not surprised that such a small boy had been out in the back country of Congo by himself. Nor were they surprised that he had wandered into their compound in Pelende. They were surprised that he had survived such a harrowing experience.
The Sisters took Décision in and, for the past several years, have fed, clothed and educated him. Without their intervention, it is likely that Décision would have been kidnapped, forced into slavery, become a child soldier, or killed. It is amazing that Décision did not end up as a statistic, as yet another child of poverty lost to violence.
In 17 countries on five continents, the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur rescue, protect, educate, feed and comfort lost and abandoned children every day. Because the international Congregation is dedicated to fostering self-reliance among impoverished communities, the Sisters make educating children like Décision a top priority.
