Follow on Google News | Gulf Coast Journey: Inside the BP Oil Spill – Documentary Filmmakers Revisit Gulf Two Years LaterTwo years ago, Cravatt Productions began making a documentary, Gulf Coast Journey: Inside the BP Oil Spill while oil was gushing into the Gulf. Fingers were pointing and tensions were exploding. Two years later the filmmakers return to follow up.
Documentarians and New Media Filmmakers Marguerite Cravatt and Paula Major plan to retrace their steps and return to the scene of the oil spill events. Venice, LA was the epicenter and first on their list to revisit. The two filmmakers plan to go deep into the swamplands, along the Gulf through Biloxi, and then on to Orange Beach, FL., the scene of a nasty altercation between petite filmmaker Marguerite Cravatt and a rather large 6’ 4” Police Officer. Ms. Major captured the altercation with her pocket camera and Ms. Cravatt had her camera rolling as well. The video went viral. Haters and supporters battled it out in the social media chat boards. This summer, the two filmmakers hope to interview the officer and take a look back at the tensions at the time and how things are today. Ms. Cravatt is a native of Pensacola, Fl. and a local home owner and has strong ties in the community. This summer Cravatt Productions will also be filming a Reality Show Pilot that has captured the interests of a few Hollywood bigwigs. It was due to these strong ties to the south that she began filming the documentary while on a routine scheduled visit to Florida for the 4th of July festivities with her family. It was during this time in 2010 that the Oil Spill had erupted killing 12. When asked about the style and tone of the film, Ms. Major states, “The story is being told as a diary. It documents one woman’s journey going home to a place that was in danger of being destroyed. It’s not a Michael Moore expose but more of a personal expose.” As the Executive Producer and Field Producer, Ms. Cravatt is a behind the camera person, yet for this documentary she is in front of the camera telling her story and introducing you to the southern culture of her roots. It is her story that is being told from her personal point of view. The land that was in danger of being destroyed was and is her home. While in the area, the two women are seeking correspondents for an online live streaming show discussing the oil spill and its aftermath. No experience is required, but reporters will be required to: (1) be comfortable talking on camera, (2) have their own computer, web cam or video camera, and (3) have a strong wifi internet connection. The filmmakers are also seeking people who want to talk about the oil spill and share their stories, thoughts, and feelings on camera. They are seeking the truth – good or bad.
