PRLog - June 4, 2012 - MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Catholic Charities of West Tennessee Announces New Mobile Food Pantry
CCWTN Mobile Food Pantry
Memphis, TN – June 4, 2012 – Catholic Charities of West Tennessee (CCWTN) today announced plans to launch a new, mobile food pantry to help serve the needs of the hungry in West Tennessee. The volunteer-driven program will launch in June with one Catholic parish in the Memphis area and a second in the Jackson area. Each parish will pre-qualify recipients. CCWTN will visit each location on a regular basis to distribute pre-assembled boxes of non-perishable and (as available) perishable foods.
“This is an expansion of our long-standing food pantry located in the basement of our headquarters at 1325 Jefferson,” said Therese Gustaitis, Director of the Parish Social Ministry arm of CCWTN. “Our diocese is so much bigger than just mid-town Memphis and the needs are every bit as great for our clients in Raleigh, Frayser, Hickory Hill, Brownsville, Jackson and many other areas in which we serve.”
Over time, plans call for expansion of the program to at least eight locations in West Tennessee with the frequency of distribution and the number of clients served increasing based upon the availability of foodstuffs.
In keeping with CCWTN’s theme that Need knows no boundaries of ethnicity, age, faith or gender. Neither do we, this mobile food pantry will serve all people in need.
CCWTN continually collects food for distribution from multi-faith church communities, schools, businesses and individuals. It is anticipated that collection needs will grow significantly with this expanded outreach. Any person or organization that would like to assist us by organizing a collection effort or donating non-perishable goods is asked to call (901) 722-4797.
