The name change was done in order to remain consistent with the national name changes. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics changed its name effective January 1, 2012.
“Texas dietitians are pleased to have the name nutrition in our association name now, as some consumers are still learning about what dietitians do, “ says Caroline Nelson, new incoming President for the Texas Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
Nelson goes onto say, “The new name also brings with it a better sense of our reputation of having a strong science background with a wide range of expertise from our members. The very meaning of academy explains us so well. It is ‘a society of learned persons organized to advance science.'”
“While our name is changing, our mission and objectives remain the same, “ says Nelson. “Our members, whom are made up of Registered Dietitians and Dietetic Technicians, Registered will continue to provide the most reliable nutrition advice to the public.”
The Texas Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (T.A.N.D.) is an affiliate of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (formerly the American Dietetic Association)
