The 2012 Clinical Trial Honour Roll Australian Awards presented in Sydney on Wednesday

The 2012 Clinical Trials Honour Roll Australian “Most Nominated” Award winners will be presented with their Awards at the ARCS Annual Scientific Conference Dinner in Darling Harbour, Sydney on Wednesday 6th June.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Jun. 5, 2012 - The five winners of the four Australian “Most Nominated” Awards on this year’s Clinical Trials Honour Roll will receive their Awards on Wednesday night in a special presentation at the ARCS Australia Annual Scientific Conference Dinner, Darling Harbour Convention Centre.

Of the 124 individuals and organisations nominated for their contribution to clinical trials on the 5th annual Clinical Trials Honour Roll, these Award winners received the most peer nominations in their category:
  •   The ARCS Australia “Most Nominated Clinical Trial Monitor in Australia” - Mrs Lily McDonald, a clinical research associate (CRA) at Bristol Myers Squibb
  •   The ARCS Australia “Most Nominated Research Coordinator in Australia” – Cindy Hall, a cardiology trial coordinator at The Princess Alexandra Hospital, Brisbane.
  •   Joint winners of The Kids Research Institute’s “Most Nominated People Involved in Paediatric Clinical Trials” - Susan Smith and Vanessa Bonett, paediatric trial coordinators at The Sydney Children’s Clinical Trials Centre, Randwick (Sydney)
  •   The AccessCR “Most Nominated Clinical Trial Sponsor in Australia” - The Australasian Leukaemia and Lymphoma Group, a not for profit organisation designing and delivering investigator-initiated clinical trial research into blood cancers.

The Australian government’s sponsorship of this event in 2012 is testament to the value clinical trials bring to the Australian community.

“With Australia struggling to remain globally competitive in running clinical trials1,” said Honour Roll founder Dr Janelle Bowden, “having an opportunity through the Honour Roll to recognise great Australian individuals and organisations improving the lives of patients through clinical research will hopefully help boost morale in the industry, encourage people to continue their efforts, and promote future participation in clinical trials.”

The circle of benefits that clinical trials deliver to a broad variety of stakeholders make them an enterprise the whole community should be better informed about and engaged in, so that they continue to be an option for Australian patients. Clinical trials provide interesting career opportunities for scientists and healthcare professionals that ensure the best and brightest doctors, nurses and researchers remain in Australia. What we learn from clinical trials helps patients now and into the future. Healthcare organisations running clinical trials are known to generally deliver better outcomes for patients (and hence their families).

Thanks are extended to the Australian government and Australian Award sponsors (ARCS Australia Ltd, The Kids Research Institute and AccessCR) for their support of this event to recognise Australians involved in clinical trials.
