June 1, 2012 - PRLog -- ScottMadden, Inc., one of North America’s leading energy consulting firms, recently released The Energy Industry Update. This semi-annual publication features our view of significant events and emerging trends in the energy industry.

Themed “Managing with Uncertainty Fatigue,” this issue highlights the continuous challenges faced by the energy companies. Despite political and regulatory uncertainty in this election year, companies are running out of time to craft adaptive strategies and are making substantial investment (and disinvestment) decisions in the face of this uncertainty.

“The confluence of regulatory activity, step changes in natural gas prices, a sluggish economic recovery, and political logjams in Washington are challenging even the most seasoned strategists at energy companies,” said Greg Litra, partner and energy, clean tech, and infrastructure research lead. “Companies are moving ahead in the face of this uncertainty and are taking ‘no-regrets’ actions that will withstand a wide range of outcomes on the political, regulatory, and economic fronts.”

The Energy Industry Update also includes:

•   Increasingly stringent EPA limits on mercury and air toxics, as well as greenhouse gas emissions standards for new power generation, and the impact these rules are having on the composition of power generation in the United States
•   Ongoing headwinds and opportunities for renewable power in the United States, as we wait to see whether production tax credits and other policy support wanes after 2012
•   Infrastructure development for and cost trends in electric and natural gas vehicles
•   A look at issues raised by FERC’s Order 1000 and its inquiry into transmission incentives:  Will resolution of these issues facilitate power transmission development?

Additionally, ScottMadden and Infocast will be hosting an interactive webinar on Friday, June 22, 2012 from 1:00-2:30 PM EDT titled, “ScottMadden Energy Industry Update – What Is Happening, What It Means, and Where the Industry Is Headed.” Here, we will focus on several hot topics, including solar and wind development in light of low natural gas prices, transmission development in the wake of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s Order 1000, and regulatory trends in the industry.
