MEDIA ALERT: Community Forum about Local Coverage of Underrepresented Groups

The Triad Association of Black Journalists (TABJ) will host a public roundtable discussion about how local media covers underrepresented groups in the Piedmont.

WHAT:
The Triad Association of Black Journalists (TABJ) will host Let's Talk! a community forum about local media coverage of underrepresented groups. The friendly, roundtable discussion will be moderated by Annie Tyson Jett, President & COO of B&C Associates, Inc and board member of the National Committee for Community and Justice of the Piedmont Triad. This event is free and open to the public. All are welcome to come and express their views.

WHY:
TABJ’s goal is to better understand what local residents identify as positive and negative coverage of their communities, and to get suggestions on how local media outlets can improve their coverage of underrepresented groups such as Hispanics, Asians, Muslims and the LGBT community.



About Annie Tyson Jett
Tyson Jett has over 30 years of corporate experience in management, human resources, organization development, diversity planning and education, manufacturing and strategic planning. She is responsible for overall business operations; business development strategy; and design and implementation of human resources, diversity and social responsibility research and protocols. Tyson Jett is also Interim Executive Director of the BookSmart Foundation.

About the Triad Association of Black Journalists (TABJ)
TABJ, an affiliate chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists, is an organization that represents the interests of African American journalists and media-related professionals in the Piedmont Triad region of North Carolina. TABJ provides networking and professional development opportunities for African American journalists, encourages students of color to pursue media-related careers, and creates a dialogue with the Triad community to make sure our stories are being told well.

About the Washington Street Historic District
The Washington Street Historic District is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. It contains a collection of architecturally significant early to mid twentieth century commercial, residential and church buildings. Washington Street is a center of the African-American community in High Point and has been called the Black Main Street.
