ACN Charity Golf Event Raises $187K for Ronald McDonald House

PRLog (Press Release) - Jun. 1, 2012 - CONCORD, NC – On most dreary mornings, few rise ready to grab their clubs for a round of golf. But on May 14, 2012 – one such rainy morning – many did just that, gathering at the Ballantyne Country Club fairways for ACN's 2012 Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte Celebrity Golf Tournament. The event, sponsored by ACN Global Reach Charities, raised $187,520 for the local Ronald McDonald House Chapter, exceeding last year’s gift by more than $10,000.

The sold-out event welcomed 130 golfers and celebrities from across the U.S. to participate in the tournament. Among the celebrities – who served as team captains – were former NBA point guard Tyrone “Muggsy” Bogues, Charlotte Bobcats player Matt Carroll, former NFL cornerback Steven Israel, and former two-time Pro Bowl NFL wide receiver Muhsin Muhammad, among others. Mick Mixon, the Voice of the Carolina Panthers, emceed the event.

As part of the event, attendees were invited to bid on several items in a silent auction, including VIP tickets to NASCAR’s Bank of America 500 race in October, VIP seats for an upcoming Coldplay concert at Time Warner Cable Arena and round trip air tickets from Delta Air Lines. Ronald McDonald shoes autographed by the celebrities who participated in the event were also a popular item up for auction.

From every item donated, to each corporate sponsor, celebrity and player – 100% of the proceeds from the event were donated to the Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte, which opened in May 2011 to serve as a home away from home for families with sick children being treated in the Charlotte area.

The annual tournament has been made possible by donations to ACN Global Reach Charities by ACN, Inc. In 2008, ACN named Ronald McDonald House Charities its global charitable organization, and since that time ACN has collected donations for the local Ronald McDonald House chapter at each of its quarterly International Training Events held around the world.

Donations collected at ACN's recent Los Angeles International Training Event enabled ACN Global Reach Charities to present the Pasadena Ronald McDonald House with a check for $89,351.18 on May 20, 2012 – less than a week after hosting the celebrity golf event benefitting the Charlotte chapter.

So despite the dreary weather during the event, it was a bright day. More than just an event filled with celebrity sightings, the golf tournament offered a chance to make a difference and celebrate giving back.

The RMH of Charlotte serves the families of children being treated at Levine Children’s Hospital and Hemby Children’s Hospital.
