Crowds flock to Plumb Center's Channel Islands Trade Shows

June 1, 2012 - PRLog -- Exhibitors, the business community and organisers were delighted with Plumb Center’s first Channel Islands Trade Shows.  Customers flocked to the events, which attracted 24 of the industry’s leading manufacturers, under the slogan, Making Renewable More Do-Able.

The shows on Jersey and Guernsey in May focussed on the islands’ climate. They enjoy six weeks more sunshine than the South Coast of Britain, making them perfectly placed to harness solar technology.

It was a major logistic challenge shipping manufacturers’ displays from the mainland but all the planning seemed to have paid off. And plans are already in the pipeline for 2013.

Plumb Center’s Area Trading Manager, Terry Jones said: “Our customers really appreciated having a show close to home - it is time consuming and expensive for them to travel to the mainland. They were also very pleased about the quality of the stands.”

“It was excellent,” said Heath Kearns of Jersey’s John Warrener Plumbing & Heating Ltd, which employs 16 staff. “I would certainly support it next year. It’s helpful to have a wide-range of suppliers under the same roof at the same time.”

The renewables’ focus was important to Sarnia Gas on Guernsey, which is currently training engineers in heat pump and solar thermal technologies.

Spokesman Greg Mauger said: “Renewables are of particular interest because we are getting increasing numbers of enquiries. It was an excellent opportunity to discuss the application of these systems direct with the manufacturers. We will definitely support a show next year.”

The sunny climate isn’t the only reason Channel Islanders are attracted to renewables.

“The islanders are fiercely independent,” said John May, Plumb Center’s Renewables Sales Manager. “They face the same problems we do because the price of gas and oil is rising and there are fears over supply. But renewables also appeal because they protect the ecology of the island, which is the source of great pride, and puts the people in charge of their own destiny.”
